Tactical Edge Unarmed Combatives & Basic Combative Baton seminar. Sat 13th March, 12 - 4pm, GMac Martial Arts, Craigwillow Centre, Craigshill, Livingston.

This seminar for Tactical Edge Livingstone will see us working on Tactical Edge unarmed combatives working against street attacks. We're then going to look at the application side of combative baton rather than the developmental side of stick training. Contact John McIllvaney to book.
Limb Destructions Seminar- 'Breaking the 4 corners', limb destructions for defensive combat. April 3rd 2010, 12 - 4pm. Combat Ready, Edinburgh.

Tactical Edge uses Limb Destructions as its primary method of intercepting an attack. This is for several reasons. The closest vital areas to you when an attacker is trying to hit you are usually the parts of the body they're trying to hit you with. If you block the attackers limb then you've stopped it from hitting you but not much else, but a limb destruction will cause pain & trauma on the first beat, re-set their 'ooda loop'- & if they're armed blow the weapon out of their hand or at the least weaken it so it is easier to strip or disarm. Because it 'resets the ooda loop' it gives you a far safer entry into striking & takedowns, & causes cross extensive reflex action to take the opposite limb offline for a short time too.
When we use a Limb Destruction we're either targeting motor nerves or joints. When we target a motor nerve we're striking deep into the muscle & inhibiting the release of acetycholine, this means the limb & the brain are no longer communicating! Targeting joints we're destroying the skeletal structure of the body; either way we're taking the fight aggressively to the bad guy, & counter-offense beats defence!
We'll be looking at different methods of destroying an opponents limbs, some of them scalpels & some of them sledgehammers. We'll explore how they can be used against different methods of street attack, & how they allow you to bridge into striking & takedowns; & also how they allow you to more easily effect techniques such as 'returning blades' or 'strip & retain'.
Tactical Edge Founder Mark Davies has used these techniques numerous times against both unarmed & armed opponents, this isn't theory- it's been field tested!
Contact Tactical Edge Senior Instructor Marcus Houston for booking details.

Tactical Edge mini workshops coming soon!
It's sometimes difficult to fit all our skill-at-arms training in to training sessions as much as we'd like; so to boost everyone's training in this important area of Tactical Edge we're going to start running mini workshops on various skill-at-arms topics. These workshops will just be a normal class length, & will be FREE to ANY students of Tactical Edge from ANY of our Tactical Edge classes. The workshops will be taught by Tactical Edge founder Mark Davies. Workshops will run on a Saturday from 2 - 3.30pm, & we hope to put on one a month. We encourage all Tactical Edge students to try to make as many of these as possible, as they will give you a total immersion in our weapons training. The first workshop will be on the use of Single Stick, & we'll confirm the date here soon.

Mark Davies invited to teach on Grandmasters Seminar
Chief Instructor of 'the BEST defence', Mark Davies, was invited to teach on the recent 'Audience with Grandmaster MacCallum' seminar hosted by GMac Martial Arts for ITF Scotland.
The seminar was in honor of Grandmaster Tom MacCallum, celebrating his promotion to 9th Degree Blackbelt Grandmaster by the International TaeKwon-Do Federation. This makes him Scotland first ever TaeKwon-Do Grandmaster. Grandmaster MacCallum was the Secretary General of the ITF for many years, & was the closest friend & aide of the founder of TaeKwon-Do, General Choi Hong Hi.

Mr Davies, Grandmaster MacCallum, Master Wallace & Master Hutton
The seminar was taught by Master Gordon Wallace, Master Mark Hutton, Mr Davies & Mr Andrew Niven. After Grandmaster MacCallum had kicked the seminar off with a few words on how TaeKwon-Do had changed in the time he had been studying & teaching it, & a quick warm up in the style of his first instructor in Singapore; the first part of the course was taken by Master Wallace. The students were taken through some of the 'old school' training methods, & Master Wallace introduced the students to some of the body conditioning methods that were part of a normal nights training back when Mark was one of Master Wallaces students.

Master Wallace's conditioning class, press up time.

Master Hutton took over & took the students through some dynamic leg strengthening & stretching training. This part of the seminar saw some very interesting looks on everyones faces, & some really strange noises that sounded remarkably like pain.

Master Hutton demonstrating dynamic flexibility
Mr Davies then took over to perform Applied TaeKwon-Do with the students. Mark chose some techniques from the patterns & showed how they could be applied against edged weapons, working specifically against the high frontal threat position.

The final part of the physical course was taken by Mr Niven, who is originally from New Zealand but now lives in Germany. Mr Niven took the students through some specialised training for developing their jumping & flying techniques.

Mr Niven demonstrating Special Technique training
After the physical part of the seminar everyone was invited upstairs to a Q & A session with Grandmaster MacCallum, where they could ask him questions about the early days of TaeKwon-Do & the ITF, & his years with General Choi.
The seminar was a HUGE success, & proved such an enjoyable day that the same format may be used again for future ITF Scotland courses.

“I have just completed a CQC (close Quarter Combat) course taught by Master Mark Davies at my Academy in Norwich, Norfolk. Having been involved in martial arts for 25 years I have reached a point where very few things are 'new' or 'fresh'. I can say however that the material presented by Mark is certainly new to me; it is also the most effective system that I have ever seen!”
